Burning forests and agricultural smoke contribute to global warming and climate change.

Climate Change

First Priority

What is climate change?

Climate change first priority is a global phenomenon that refers to the significant, long-term changes in the global climate. It is caused by the increased emission of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide and methane, into the atmosphere. These gases trap heat from the sun and cause temperatures to rise both on land and in oceans. This rise in temperature leads to various consequences such as extreme weather events, changes in precipitation patterns, rising sea levels, melting glaciers, declining biodiversity and more. Climate change has become one of the most pressing issues of our time as it poses a serious threat to life on Earth. For a more in depth understanding see Climate Change Primer.

How will it affect you?

Climate change is an issue that affects us all, no matter where we live. Its global impacts can be seen in rising sea levels, extreme weather events, and changes to the natural environment. But it’s the local impacts that are likely to affect us the most. From increased air pollution to more frequent floods and droughts, climate change will have a direct impact on our day-to-day lives. It’s important for us to understand how these changes will affect us so that we can take steps to protect ourselves and our families from its effects.

Mitigation

As the effects of climate change become increasingly apparent, it is essential to develop strategies to mitigate its impact. One promising way to do so is through carbon removal, which involves capturing and storing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Carbon removal has the potential to reduce global warming by removing CO2 from the atmosphere and storing it in a secure location. In addition, it can also help reduce air pollution and improve public health. Carbon removal technologies are being developed at a rapid pace, and they offer an effective way of reducing global emissions and helping us achieve our climate goals.

Resilience

Mother Earth is resilient and has the power to regenerate itself, if we give her a chance. We can do this by implementing regenerative agriculture practices and sustainable living habits. Regenerative agriculture involves farming techniques that restore the soil, increase biodiversity, and reduce water wastage. Sustainable living, on the other hand, involves making conscious decisions to reduce our carbon footprint and live with minimal environmental impact. By implementing these practices, we can help Mother Earth become more resilient and better equipped to handle the challenges of climate change in the future.

Global Solution: Carbon Removal

We Must Act Now

Climate change is an urgent global issue that requires immediate action. To tackle this problem, we need to explore innovative solutions that can help us reduce our carbon emissions and remove existing carbon from the atmosphere. One such solution is biochar, which has the potential to sequester large amounts of carbon and help us reach our climate goals.

Biochar is a type of charcoal created by burning organic materials such as wood or agricultural waste in an oxygen-limited environment. It can be used to store carbon in the soil for long periods of time, thus reducing atmospheric CO2 levels. Additionally, biochar has been proven to improve soil fertility and water retention, making it a viable solution for both climate change mitigation and sustainable agriculture.

What WE are DOING

Our approach is to solve the agricultural smoke contributing to climate change. Reduce the smoke and carbon removal and sequestration.

Climate change is having a profound effect on communities around the world, particularly on smallholder farmers. As temperatures rise and weather patterns become more unpredictable, these farmers are often left with few resources to cope with the changing environment. However, we are working to ensure that these smallholder farmers have access to information and training that can help them adapt to the changing climate and even benefit financially from it.

Biochar Training

Learning how to make biochar in a simple trench

Biochar training is an important tool for smallholder farmers to increase the value of their crops. By using biochar, farmers can improve soil fertility and water retention while also reducing the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere. Through biochar training, smallholder farmers can learn how to use this sustainable agricultural technique to increase crop yields and reduce their environmental impact. Furthermore, biochar training can help farmers gain a better understanding of how to create and use this valuable soil amendment in a safe and efficient manner. With the right knowledge, these smallholder farmers can maximize their crop’s potential and benefit from increased profits.

Carbon Removal

Carbon markets are an increasingly popular way to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions. They provide an economic incentive for businesses and individuals to invest in activities that reduce emissions and help mitigate climate change. Small holder farmers, who we train, are eligible to participate in the carbon credit market and benefit from the economic incentives it provides. By participating in this market, small holder farmers can help reduce global greenhouse gas emissions while also receiving financial rewards for their efforts.

Building Strong Communities

Strong Communities Make a Better World

In order to effectively manage the crisis posed by climate change at the local level, communities need to come together and strengthen their bonds. By working together they can develop strategies for mitigating the effects of climate change on their environment and population. Furthermore, they can help each other cope with the psychological impacts of climate change-related disasters. With a unified effort, communities can create a better future for themselves and generations to come.

What WE are DOING

Phrao is a small community in Northern Thailand with a population of about 50,000 people. Despite its size, the community faces several challenges that need to be addressed. These include issues related to education, sustainable income and elder care.

We support the following community-led projects:

Education is an important part of any society and Phrao is no exception. There are many children in the area with no access to a formal education. This has led to a decrease in educational outcomes for students in the area.

Sustainable income is also an issue for many families in Phrao as there are limited job opportunities available. This has led to a decrease in living standards for many households and an increase in poverty levels within the community.

Finally, Acess to Care for the elderly and disabled is another issue that needs attention as there are not enough facilities or services available within Phrao. Many elderly people have been left without access to health care or other forms of support which can lead to further deterioration of their quality of life
