Michael says Tawachai is like a Tonka Toy Truck. He’s built to last. He is chunky and tough, but full of good will and always ready to dissolve into a puddle of laughter when tickled.

Journey to Warm Heart

Tawachai and his sister Praew come from Arye, an Akha village in the mountains too far from any schools to attend. Their parents farm corn, cherries, rice, and coffee.

Initially Praew went to a boarding school in Chiang Rai, but when the boarding and food became too expensive for her parents, they asked Warm Heart to accept first Praew and then Tawachai.

Like most Akha children, Tawachai couldn’t speak Thai when he first arrived.

Today

In just a short time surrounded by new friends, Tawachai’s Thai has flourished. He says he really enjoys school, especially Thai. He loves getting to practice with all of the older boys at the home and his Thai tutors.

Tawachai’s favorite part of living at Warm Heart is playing soccer with his best friend Lom and eating the delicious food.

Like many young Thai boys, Tawachai hopes to be a soldier when he grows up.
