Summer is in full swing here in Thailand. This week is the Songkran Festival, a 3 day celebration of the Thai New Year.
Part of the celebration is a country-wide water fight in the streets. People use giant squirt guns, buckets of water, hoses, splashing each other in merriment and glee. Considering this is the hottest time of the year, it is actually quite refreshing to be soaked with water!
Schools are closed during the hot season. Many of our children return home to spend time with family in their home villages.
But Warm Heart stays busy through the summer, providing an English Summer Camp program for our full time children that have no home to go to, along with the local neighborhood kids.
This week has been filled with learning about the life cycle of a tree and the English names of the parts of a tree, along with an art project illustrating what they learned.
The kids also had a great time in the kitchen following a recipe to make cookies. Delicious fun!
All in all, we are having a great time despite the heat.
Once the cooler weather arrives in May we will be preparing for another year of school. We have over 40 children to support and outfit for school. Half of our kids have succeeded in reaching Middle and High School which means higher costs.
We can always use a little help with our annual back to school project!
